BPS Superintendent 'Speechless' After 7-Year-Old Brings Gun To School: Police

Schools officials are baffled after a 7-year-old was found with a gun at school this week, authorities said.

“I’m speechless. I don’t have the words. This is truly devastating," said Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper. "We have to ask ourselves how a very young student becomes in possession of and gains access to a firearm."

Police responded to the Up Academy Holland School at 85 Olney Street for a report of a student with a gun around 3:33 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, Boston Police report.

Upon arrival, officers recovered the gun from 7-year-old student. Authorities are investigating how the student got the gun.

"When a young person gets access to a gun out of accessibility, we really have to ask ourselves, how does this happen?” Skipper continued. "We’re working with all of our city and state partners every day, multiple times a day, to address safety concerns, strategize new tactics to keep students safe, and create synergy in our responses to emergencies."
